(“Dawn” by Dario Marianelli, from Pride and Prejudice)
I love morning stillness, especially during the summer. The whole world still looks a little Technicolor and everything feels perfectly peaceful.
One of my favorite memories of last summer was when I joined some friends for a retreat in the mountains … one morning, another early-rising friend and I came outside as the sun was rising over the trees and just walked around admiring the evident hand of God in the graceful slopes of the mountains and golden beams of morning light.
(When you come from a metropolitan area, experiencing nature that way is rare and singularly delightful.)
It is so necessary to be reminded sometimes of all that is right with the world.
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
